The Denver Broncos played spoiler to the Buffalo Bills and their dwindling playoff hopes on Monday night, beating them 24-22 in Orchard Park, NY, to cap off Week 10.
The Broncos capitalized on an early James Cook fumble and second-quarter Josh Allen interception to head into halftime with a 15-8 lead.
Sean Payton's men made it hard for themselves over the final 30 minutes, allowing the Bills to score seven unanswered points in the third quarter, and they even fell behind in the waning moments of the game when Josh Allen ran the ball in for a touchdown to put the Bills ahead 22-21.
But Buffalo ultimately left too much time on the clock for Russell Wilson, who marched his team into game-winning field-goal range with the help of two costly penalties.
The Broncos improve to 4-5, while the Bills drop to 5-5.
Offensive spotlight: Russell Wilson hardly lit the stat sheet on fire, but he was the better quarterback tonight. He finished 24-of-29 for 192 yards and two touchdowns, with one big-time throw and zero turnover-worthy plays.
Things were kept very simple for him, with the veteran quarterback throwing just 3.5 yards down the field on average. However, he completed three of his four passes that traveled 10 or more yards downfield for 56 yards and a touchdown that could go down as the catch of the year.
Defensive spotlight: Broncos cornerback Ja'Quan McMillian wasted no time getting into the action on Monday night, as he forced the James Cook fumble on the game's very first play. McMillian was targeted five times in coverage on Monday Night Football, but he allowed just two catches for 15 yards. He made three solo tackles, two of which resulted in a stop for his defense.
Rookie spotlight: Bills tight end Dalton Kincaid caught five of his six targets for 51 yards and a touchdown in a losing effort. While he dropped one pass, he continues to look like a promising young threat for this offense in Year 1. Passes thrown his way have netted a 104.2 passer rating, and he now ranks 15th among qualifying tight ends in yards per route run.
