“It's not a matter of if. It’s just a matter of when,” Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott claimed when discussing his team's Super Bowl-winning hopes with The Athletic.

With that in mind, we take a look at the 10 NFL teams with the biggest Super Bowl windows currently.

1. Kansas City Chiefs

Although tight end Travis Kelce and head coach Andy Reid might not be together as Chiefs for much longer, with both addressing retirement rumors recently, the 2023 season showed again that their Super Bowl window is wide open as long as Patrick Mahomes is under center.

2. San Francisco 49ers

Left tackle Trent Williams, tight end George Kittle and interior defender Arik Armstead help form an elite but aging 49ers core, and the team still has its starting quarterback on an extremely cheap contract. Not to mention, Kyle Shanahan calling the plays will always provide a high floor for the San Francisco offense.

3. Houston Texans

While the Texans might not be among the five best teams in the NFL right now, perhaps no team is better set up for the near future. C.J. Stroud, who might soon turn into a top-five quarterback in the NFL, is on a rookie contract for the next three seasons, as are wide receiver Tank Dell and edge defender Will Anderson Jr. The biggest concern might be the potential departure of offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik if the Houston offense has another strong season in 2024.

4. Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens may have been the overall best team of the 2023 season, but the near future is full of questions. Many Baltimore defenders had quasi-career seasons in 2023, and the team is set to lose some significant pieces from that unit to free agency. This all comes after Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald left to become the Seahawks' head coach, raising questions about a defense that was one of the NFL's best last year. Regardless, Baltimore still has a two-time MVP at quarterback, one who will always give the team a chance.

5. Detroit Lions

Built around a strong offensive line, the Detroit offense boasts a relatively high floor, and some improvement on the defensive side can keep the Lions in contention for a Lombardi Trophy over the next couple of seasons. While winning the NFC North might be more of a challenge in the upcoming years if the Packers continue to improve, getting to the Super Bowl still seems to be easier from the NFC, which favors Detroit.

6. Cincinnati Bengals

The departure of offensive coordinator Brian Callahan might be a concern for the Cincinnati offense in 2024. However, as long as the Bengals can keep quarterback Joe Burrow and wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins together, they will have a chance to get back to the Super Bowl.

7. Buffalo Bills

Josh Allen is arguably a top-two quarterback in the NFL, but the Bills' other positions are not trending in the right direction. An aging defense now has injury concerns, particularly when it comes to cornerback Tre’Davious White and linebacker Matt Milano. Meanwhile, star wide receiver Stefon Diggs will turn 31 this season, and the Bills do not have a reliable No. 2 option behind him.

8. Los Angeles Rams

Admittedly, this window is nearly closed. It exists, though, as the Rams have already won the Super Bowl with the help of players who make up the core of the current team, including Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp and Aaron Donald. If young players step up, then the Rams can make another run at the Lombardi Trophy while they still have Stafford under center.

9. Green Bay Packers

The Packers make this list due to their potential. Despite the team's plethora of young and inexperienced players, if Jordan Love can play up to the ceiling that he flashed in 2023, Green Bay’s Super Bowl window is open once again.

Talking about a Super Bowl window for a team that has not played in a conference championship game in this millennium seems far-fetched. But the Cowboys have too much talent — including a young talented core at important positions — to not be mentioned on this list.
